Chris Janzen, "Dinner: A Record of Madness"
What would a dinner party attended by some of history's most eccentric individuals be like? Chris Janzen, FPU art and music faculty member, and Jesse Nathan, Bay Area poet and McSweeney's editor, created a vinyl-only recording in the summer of 2011 called "Dinner: A Record of Madness" which explores this concept. The record was commissioned by the Contemporary Jewish Museum of San Francisco as part of their celebration of the poet Gertrude Stein (who is one of the many dinner guests in the story) and was accompanied by three live performances at the museum. Janzen will play the record, explain the narrative explored on each song, and explain how the music was composed and recorded. Recommended for fans of jazz, rock, funk, experimental music, poetry, and story-telling.
