A novelist who artistically imagined her grandparents’ lives as missionaries is the guest for the 2014 Jean and Louis Janzen Visiting Writer’s Series at Fresno Pacific University.
Admission is free to this reading and book-signing.
Author Bo Caldwell grew up in Los Angeles and attended Stanford University, where she went on to teach creative writing. She has written the novels The Distant Land of My Father and City of Tranquil Light, the latter based on the lives of her maternal grandparents as Mennonite and Nazarene missionaries in China and Taiwan from 1906-1961. She lives in Northern California with her husband, novelist Ron Hansen, and children.
The event is hosted by the FPU School of Humanities, Religion and Social Sciences and supported by Poets & Writers, Inc., through a grant from the James Irvine Foundation. The Jean and Louis Janzen Visiting Writers Series was established in 2007 to bring excellent Christian writers to the community. The series also honors the teaching, service and contributions of Dr. Louis Janzen and Jean Janzen, award-winning Valley poet.
